If you always say "no" then your opportunities will pass you by. If you always say "yes" then you won't stay with any single opportunity long enough to make it successful. You can't pick just one or the other, you have to use both. The question is how to use them.
What does it mean to act "strategically?" Does it mean being rational, far-sighted, and ruthless? Does it mean being manipulative and disingenuous in the pusuit of your goals? Is it something that you should hide from others, or boast about?
Kindness is a behavior between humans that shows acceptance, alliance, and the willingness to help the other person. These deeds can be large and signifiant, or simply symbolic in nature. But the message is the same. The people receiving kindness know that they are not alone, they are not forgotten, and that there is someone who cares.
It's not what you occasionally do that matters. It's what you usually do that makes the biggest difference.
Leaders are professionals, just like any other. Doctors specialize in medicine. Accountants specialize in financial statements. Attorneys specialize in the law. Leaders, for their part, specialize in people.
